Yorkshire Water Operational Support Centre – Leeds
Bowman Riley transformed existing Leeds offices into a new Operational Support Centre for Yorkshire Water accommodating the relocation of all support staff from its long-standing head office campus.
Aligned with Yorkshire Water’s vision, the new headquarters provides a modern, energy-efficient workplace that promotes collaboration, flexible and hybrid working, and staff wellbeing. By refurbishing existing buildings rather than building anew, the project both reduced embodied carbon and improved the sustainability profile, while creating an adaptable, resilient environment designed to meet long-term needs.
The project involved reconfiguring an early-2000s office building to provide 1,000 workstations, meeting and conference facilities, and collaboration spaces. The second floor of an adjacent building was redesigned to provide additional space. Works included a complete MEP redesign, a new fire strategy, and a workplace transformation aligned with WELL design principles.
Bowman Riley provided lead consultant services, architecture, interior design, workplace strategy, Principal Designer services under CDM and Building Regulations, signage, wayfinding and graphic design. Our design created an intuitive, inclusive workplace, reinforcing the Yorkshire Water brand through colour, materiality, nature-inspired finishes and accessible design.
The biggest challenge was delivering the scheme to an accelerated programme, with the client keen to occupy the building as soon as possible. Early tendering enabled the design to evolve during construction, with input from the client team. The construction phase was completed in just nine months, against a typical 12–18-month programme. This was achieved through proactive collaboration among the design team, Peak PM Project Managers, and the fit-out contractor, Overbury, alongside increased resources.
This project demonstrates our expertise in complex workplace transformations, delivering resilient, future-ready commercial environments.
York College Framework
York College is a highly regarded education institution that ranks among the top three colleges in the UK. As the sole supplier of a multidisciplinary consultancy team, we support the College’s investment in its campus and ensure the best possible learning environments.
We have been a trusted partner of York College since 2018, when appointed to the college’s first framework. Reappointed to the College’s framework in 2024 for a second term, we offer an integrated solution combining architecture, building surveying, project management, interior design, and principal designer services. We also work with trusted partners, including quantity surveyors Summers Inman and Adept civil and structural engineers, to cover all necessary disciplines.
Our partnership is underpinned by consistently excellent KPI results, demonstrating our commitment to the College’s long-term success. With a real understanding of the campus, we have forged strong working relationships with key College staff and continuously support their objectives.
Key Projects
Atrium Repair: Our first project involved overseeing the £100k repair of the central glazed atrium within a six-week summer break. Despite challenging weather, we completed the work on time with a 20-year guarantee.
Institute of Technology Refurbishments: Our relationship with York College grew stronger when we assisted the college in securing central government funding to create an Institute of Technology. York College was selected as one of only 12 Institutes of Technology in England, leading to several refurbishment projects, including remodelling the library, teaching spaces, and media areas.
Motor Vehicle Workshop: The £600,000 project created additional space for training mechanics, engineers, and technicians. Delivered during the 2020 lockdown, it provided teaching space and supported social distancing. The handover to the client was planned to coincide with Reading Week at the College, which allowed the tutors time and space to set up before the students returned for the next term.
Construction Centre: Supporting the introduction of T-Level qualifications, we oversaw a two-storey extension to the construction centre, which included joinery and brickwork workshops, classrooms, and IT suites. The 44-week programme was strategically phased outside of term time. The construction centre extension addressed immediate space requirements, demonstrating innovative problem-solving and a commitment to sustainability. The project was completed on time and within budget, earning a Very Good BREEAM rating.
Student Hub: We designed the refurbishment of the student hub, creating a welcoming, efficient space that integrates reception, student services, and learning resources for students to work and collaborate.
Lecture Theatre Refurbishment: Working in collaboration with Ben Johnson Interiors, we refurbished an existing lecture theatre into a space capable of supporting modern teaching, presentations, seminars and college events. The five-week programme included removing and reupholstering seats, installing a new lighting system throughout and fitting new acoustic wall panelling. The theatre has also been given new flooring, a sleek black ceiling, a brand-new lectern and a range of contemporary specialist furniture, creating a flexible and engaging environment for students, staff and visitors.
Beauty Training Centre: Working in collaboration with fit out contractor Ben Johnson Interiors, we transformed a redundant office space into a modern beauty training centre. The refurbishment included reconfiguring the internal layout, upgrading finishes throughout and accommodating specialist equipment to create a professional environment that reflects industry standards and enhances practical learning opportunities for students.

Pure Padel Tennis Clubs – Nationwide roll-out
Designing the next generation of padel venues
Bowman Riley is working with Pure Padel to deliver a growing network of premium indoor padel centres across the UK.
Appointed as lead architect, interior designer and principal designer, we support Pure Padel from early design through to delivery, adapting each venue to its location, building and operational requirements while maintaining a strong and recognisable customer experience.
Our portfolio includes three very different facilities in Darlington, Nottingham and Stockport, demonstrating our ability to transform existing buildings and new-build shells into high-quality sporting and social destinations.
Darlington
Pure Padel Darlington is a dedicated indoor facility featuring seven panoramic courts, high-specification lighting and a vibrant social area.
Designed as more than simply a place to play, the centre provides a flexible destination for casual games, competitive sport, corporate events and private functions. The design combines sporting performance with hospitality and social spaces to create an accessible and engaging environment.
Nottingham
In Nottingham, Bowman Riley transformed a disused 1920s bus depot into a distinctive indoor padel centre while retaining and celebrating the building’s industrial character.
The existing concrete floor required a specialist screed solution, while the barrel-vaulted roof and low structural beams presented further challenges. Working closely with the court supplier, we developed a layout accommodating seven courts within the existing building – three singles courts and four panoramic doubles courts.
A bar, café and pro shop complement the courts, while bespoke internal and external signage strengthens the venue’s identity and visibility.
Stockport
At Stockport, Bowman Riley was brought in during construction of a new-build industrial unit to transform the shell into a vibrant five-court padel centre.
The design maximised the number of courts within the available footprint while incorporating bespoke changing and toilet facilities. A bar and café provide a social hub, complemented by a mezzanine viewing gallery overlooking the courts.
Cost efficiency was a key consideration, with our supplier network used to achieve a premium look and feel while working within the client’s budget.
A scalable approach
Across the three venues, our work demonstrates a flexible and repeatable approach to delivering indoor padel facilities.
From adapting historic buildings to working within new-build industrial shells, we combine efficient planning, robust materials, strong interiors and distinctive branding to create venues that work for players, spectators and operators.
As Pure Padel continues its nationwide expansion, Bowman Riley is supporting the development of a consistent, high-quality experience across its growing portfolio.

Thornhills Gardens Vision Document – Brighouse, West Yorkshire
Bowman Riley partnered with Evans Property Group, England Homes and the planning consultancy, Quod, to create a vision document for Thornhills Garden Suburb, a major proposed residential-led development on the edge of Brighouse
Spanning more than 140 hectares, the scheme has the potential to deliver around 2,140 homes, new schools, community facilities, employment space, transport infrastructure and more than 40 hectares of public open space.
A development of this scale required a document capable of communicating a complex story clearly and compellingly. Bowman Riley brought together planning, architectural and technical information from multiple disciplines, transforming a vast body of specialist evidence into a clear and persuasive narrative.
Working closely with the project team, we structured the document to guide readers through the site’s opportunities, constraints and design evolution. Editorial design, mapping, diagrams, masterplans and visual storytelling made complex subjects, including housing need, infrastructure, ecology and landscape, accessible to planners, investors and other key stakeholders.
The result of the vision document is a clear and engaging communication tool that brings together technical evidence, design thinking and long-term vision, helping stakeholders understand the scale, opportunity and potential of Thornhills Garden Suburb.

The Woolly Sheep Inn – Skipton, North Yorkshire
Bowman Riley worked with Timothy Taylor’s to enhance The Woolly Sheep Inn, one of Yorkshire’s best-known pubs, through a programme of refurbishment, branding, wayfinding and digital innovation. The objective was to improve the customer experience, maximise the use of existing spaces and strengthen the pub’s identity whilst retaining the character and heritage that make it a popular destination.
Our brief was to preserve the pub’s charm that local people love while making better use of underused areas, such as the function and dining rooms.
Working closely with the client team, we developed a coordinated design approach that combined interior design, architectural improvements, signage and digital technology to create a more welcoming and engaging environment for customers.
Interior Refurbishment
The refurbishment focused on improving key customer areas throughout the pub. An underperforming function room was transformed into the Sheep Room, a flexible and characterful space inspired by the atmosphere of the pub’s well-loved Snug. The dining room was refreshed with carefully selected finishes, lighting, and furnishings to create a warmer, more inviting setting.
The project also enhanced the pub’s external offer. An unused outdoor area was enclosed to form a new internal courtyard and extended bar area, while the beer garden was upgraded with private seating huts, heating and a retractable canopy. These improvements increased capacity and enabled year-round use of the outdoor spaces.
Sustainability was an important consideration throughout the project. Existing flooring was retained where possible, banquette seating was reupholstered rather than replaced, and locally sourced materials were incorporated into the design.
Branding, Signage and Wayfinding
As part of the wider refurbishment, Bowman Riley developed a comprehensive signage and wayfinding strategy. A review of the customer journey identified opportunities to improve navigation throughout the venue, particularly to the toilets, function spaces and outdoor areas.
Working alongside Timothy Taylor’s marketing team, we designed a suite of wayfinding signage, bespoke graphics, murals and artwork that reflected the heritage and personality of The Woolly Sheep Inn. The integrated approach created a consistent visual identity and improved the overall visitor experience by making the venue easier to navigate and more memorable for customers.
Digital Visitor Experience
To support the pub’s marketing strategy, Bowman Riley produced an immersive Matterport 3D virtual tour of the venue. The virtual experience allows potential visitors to explore the pub, dining areas and guest accommodation remotely before booking. The tour has become a valuable marketing tool, improving customer engagement and providing greater confidence for guests planning their visit.
Key Challenges and Solutions
A key challenge was delivering multiple improvements whilst maintaining the character and authenticity that had established The Woolly Sheep Inn as a successful destination. Through close collaboration with the client, contractor and stakeholder team, Bowman Riley delivered a coordinated solution that balanced heritage, operational requirements and customer expectations.
The completed project has transformed the customer experience, improved operational efficiency and strengthened the venue’s identity. By integrating architecture, interior design, branding and digital technology within a single project, Bowman Riley helped create a distinctive destination that supports the continued success of one of Yorkshire’s most popular pubs.
The Woolly Sheep now offers a warm, inviting atmosphere that maximises both its space and character for locals and visitors alike. The results surpassed expectations, with the pub achieving record financial success.
Woolly Sheep Inn was named the Yorkshire and the Humber Pub & Bar of the Year at this year’s Pub & Bar Awards 2026.

Robin Hill Residential Development Branding – Ilkley
Bankhead Group appointed Bowman Riley to develop the residential development branding for Robin Hill, an exclusive collection of seven new-build apartments in Ilkley’s Middleton Conservation Area.
The spacious two- and three-bedroom apartments feature private outdoor space, two parking spaces, and are within a gated development with mature landscaped gardens, a living green wall, and a sedum-roofed carport.
Working alongside our architects and our client, we successfully created a distinctive residential development brand that communicates the quality, exclusivity and landscaped setting of Robin Hill.
Our challenge was to create an identity that would position Robin Hill confidently within Ilkley’s premium property market while giving the development its own recognisable character.
Our services included brand strategy and market positioning, residential development identity, logo and monogram design, colour palette and typography, construction hoarding design, sales and marketing collateral, and print artwork and production coordination.
An identity rooted in its setting
The Robin Hill identity combines a refined monogram with elegant typography, a restrained colour palette and rich botanical imagery. Deep green establishes a connection with the development’s mature landscape, while gold detailing introduces warmth and a sense of quality. The clean, contemporary monogram complements the bespoke architecture without relying on traditional or predictable luxury property imagery. Together, these elements create an identity that feels modern, considered and appropriate for the development’s conservation-area setting.
Turning the site boundary into a marketing opportunity
The identity was applied to large-format construction hoarding surrounding the development, which combines the Robin Hill branding with concise sales messages, development information and architectural visualisations. This allowed the site to begin communicating its character, quality and market positioning before prospective buyers could experience the completed apartments. Clear visual hierarchy ensures that the development name and key messages can be understood quickly by passing pedestrians and motorists.
Creating a consistent buyer experience
The visual identity was extended across printed sales and marketing materials, creating a consistent experience from initial awareness through to more detailed buyer conversations. Dark green covers, gold lettering, carefully selected materials and tactile finishes reinforce the premium positioning of the apartments. Repeating the monogram, typography and colour palette across each application makes the development immediately recognisable. The result is a cohesive property brand that supports Bankhead Group’s sales and marketing activity while giving Robin Hill a distinctive presence within the Ilkley residential market.

SportsShoes.com: Environmental Graphics
Transforming a large industrial unit into a distinctive workplace and visitor destination through environmental graphics inspired by movement, competition and sporting culture.
Creating a workplace with energy
SportsShoes.com commissioned Bowman Riley Creative to develop a complete workplace environmental graphics scheme for its new creative hub in West Yorkshire.
The scale and raw character of the industrial building created a dramatic backdrop, but the interior needed warmth, personality and a stronger sense of brand identity. Our challenge was to balance SportsShoes.com’s premium market position with the energy, humour and playfulness of its internal culture.
A visual language inspired by sport
Running, fitness and competitive sport informed a bold graphic language that travels throughout the building.
Track markings guide movement across the floors, graphics wrap around corners and climb staircases, and sporting references appear in unexpected places. These interventions encourage people to explore while connecting different areas through a consistent visual identity.
Colour, typography, pattern and scale were carefully controlled so that the scheme feels energetic without becoming visually overwhelming.
Integrated with the architecture
The graphics were considered alongside the architecture and interior design from the outset, rather than applied as a finishing layer.
Large-scale designs interact with walls, floors, stairs and structural features, helping them feel like a permanent part of the building. This approach also allowed the raw industrial materials to remain visible while giving the interior a distinctive SportsShoes.com identity.
Bespoke graphics throughout the building
Every element was developed specifically for its location and purpose. The completed scheme includes:
- Running-track floor graphics
- Podium-inspired graphics and level identification
- Reception and arrival signage
- Meeting-room identities
- Illuminated lettering
- Bespoke wallpaper and wall graphics
- Sporting messages and references
- External Unit 2 identification signage
Humorous sporting references and subtle brand messages reflect the company’s culture, while meeting-room names celebrate sporting achievements and heritage.
A memorable workplace and visitor experience
External branding was deliberately understated, creating a clear sense of arrival without overly advertising the building’s use.
Inside, the environmental graphics give the creative hub energy, continuity and a strong sense of identity. The finished space supports the SportsShoes.com team while providing a memorable destination for visitors, collaborators and brand partners.

Property Photography for Holiday Accommodation
Bowman Riley provides holiday let property photography, capturing residential accommodation for online listings and wider marketing.
Strong property photography needs to do more than make a room look attractive. It should help potential guests understand the space, imagine staying there and feel confident to make a booking.
Our aim is to create warm, inviting imagery while clearly showing each property’s layout, facilities, character and surroundings.
Combining wide-angle photography with carefully chosen detail shots, the imagery showcases the scale and personality of the accommodation. This can include bright, open living spaces, the flow between rooms, and views of the surroundings.
Careful composition helps the rooms feel spacious without creating a misleading impression. Natural light is used, supported by professional camera equipment to retain consistent detail across bright windows and darker interior areas.
The finished image libraries give the property owners a flexible collection of high-resolution and web-ready photographs for their listings and wider marketing.
By combining an understanding of architecture, interiors and visual marketing, we create photography that feels inviting while remaining honest and informative.

Corporate Photography
At Bowman Riley, our photography combines professional headshots, group portraits and natural images of people working in their everyday surroundings. Whether capturing our teams in the studio, on site or at an event, we create approachable, consistent imagery that reflects the professionalism, personality and collaborative culture of Bowman Riley.
We believe great photography should do more than record a project or a team; it should communicate who we are, how we work and the environments we create.
We understand that photography in architectural and construction environments comes with practical challenges. Our shoots can take place across offices, live projects and construction sites, where changing conditions, ongoing activity and mandatory PPE need to be managed without compromising the quality or consistency of the finished images.
Our approach is relaxed and conversational. We know that not everyone feels comfortable in front of a camera, so we provide simple guidance on positioning, posture and expression to help people feel at ease and produce natural, confident images.
The result is a cohesive library of high-quality portraits, group photography and working images that authentically represent our people, projects and culture.
Images are supplied in high-resolution and web-ready formats, providing versatile content for websites, bids and proposals, recruitment, social media, PR and wider communications.

National Highways Environmental Graphics
Bowman Riley’s creative team worked alongside National Highways and our in-house interior design team to develop a series of bespoke environmental graphics for the organisation’s new two-storey workplace in Wakefield.
Designed as a creative and collaborative hub, the workplace includes open-plan offices, meeting rooms, social spaces and staff breakout areas. The brief was to bring personality and a clear sense of identity to each setting without making the interior feel overly corporate.
Our response combines large-scale map graphics with illuminated messages. Each intervention was tailored to its surroundings, adding energy to social and dining spaces while providing a calmer backdrop within work areas. A consistent visual language connects the scheme throughout.
We worked closely with our client, our in-house interior designers and specialist manufacturer throughout the design and implementation process. We specified the wall coverings, illuminated sign construction, colours, typography and scale, coordinating each element through production and installation to protect the original design intent
The completed graphics give each space a distinctive character while remaining carefully integrated with the wider interior. The result is an engaging and cohesive workplace that reflects National Highways and supports how each space is used.

Property Development Hoarding Design
Bowman Riley designs bespoke construction hoarding that transforms temporary site boundaries into valuable marketing space.
Construction hoarding does more than secure a live site. It is often a development’s first opportunity to attract attention, build confidence and introduce the finished place to future buyers.
Working with developers, architects, sales agents and project teams, we combine brand identity, architectural visualisations, imagery and clear messaging to communicate what is being created behind the hoarding.
Every scheme starts with the development: its location, architecture, audience and market position. This allows us to create designs that feel specific to the place and communicate the quality of the finished development, rather than simply enlarging a property advertisement to construction-site scale.
Because buyers may encounter the site before they can visit the finished place, the design needs to capture attention quickly and help them imagine what is coming. We plan layouts for different viewing distances, balancing strong overall impact with information that remains clear and easy to understand.
Hoarding must work within a live construction environment. We consider panel sizes, sightlines, entrances, site information, security requirements and how the artwork will be produced and installed. From the initial idea to manufacture-ready artwork, we bring the commercial, creative and practical requirements together within one coherent design.
HOARDING SERVICES PROVIDED
- Hoarding concepts and design
- Brand identity and application
- Architectural visualisation editing
- Image selection and editing
- Content hierarchy and messaging
- Large-format print-ready artwork
- Production coordination
Are you planning a development or preparing a site for launch? We can help turn its hoarding into one of its earliest and most visible marketing opportunities.
Harrogate Town AFC Environmental Graphics
Bowman Riley worked alongside our interior design team to transform an underused stadium area into a distinctive bar for Harrogate Town AFC’s home supporters.
The narrow space had exposed blockwork and a utilitarian, industrial character. The graphics needed to introduce warmth, energy and an unmistakable sense of club identity while working with, rather than concealing, the existing architecture.
We developed a series of large-scale diagonal graphics inspired by angular elements within Harrogate Town AFC’s brand. Rather than directly repeating existing artwork, the club’s visual language was reinterpreted as an environmental graphic that responded to the proportions and movement through the space.
Yellow, black and white lines were painted directly onto the blockwork, travelling across walls, around corners and over architectural features. Integrating the motif into the fabric of the interior allowed the graphics to feel permanent rather than applied as surface decoration.
Close coordination with the club and Bowman Riley’s interior designers ensured the graphics complemented the materials, lighting and wider scheme. The illuminated “Proud to be Town” living wall provides a strong focal point behind the bar.
The result is an atmospheric supporters’ bar with a clear sense of place, strengthening the matchday experience and feeling unmistakably Harrogate Town.
Services provided:
- Environmental graphic design
- Brand interpretation
- Artwork and interior coordination

National Highways Workplace Transformation – Wakefield and Leeds
Creating workplaces for a changing organisation
Bowman Riley has worked with National Highways to create engaging, inclusive and flexible workplaces that support collaboration, wellbeing and new ways of working.
Our relationship began with the transformation of an industrial unit at Calder Park, Wakefield, into a vibrant two-storey creative hub. The success of this project led to our appointment to develop National Highways’ Leeds city centre office, carrying forward key design principles while responding to the character and requirements of a different workplace.
Wakefield – a creative hub
The Calder Park office was designed to encourage creativity, collaboration and staff engagement, with a strong focus on wellbeing and the principles of the WELL Building Standard.
A striking double-height reception leads into a vibrant social space, with a media room, bleacher-style presentation area, innovation hub, breakout spaces and flexible meeting rooms.
The central office spine incorporates quiet working rooms, acoustic booths, informal seating and collaborative workspaces, creating a variety of environments to support different ways of working.
The design takes inspiration from National Highways’ role and visual identity. Chevron patterns, bold colours and road-related graphics create a distinctive environment, while planting and biophilic elements contribute to a more welcoming workplace.
Leeds – an agile city-centre workplace
Following the success of Wakefield, Bowman Riley created a new agile working environment for National Highways’ Leeds office.
The brief placed particular emphasis on accessibility and inclusivity. Materials, colours, textures and graphic details were carefully considered to create a welcoming environment for all users.
Elements of the Wakefield design were carried through to create continuity between the two workplaces, while the Leeds scheme has its own softer, more contemporary character. A flexible town hall space with moveable walls provides an adaptable setting for meetings, presentations and events.
The 120-workspace office combines a mid-century retro influence with contemporary architectural details, rattan, planting and National Highways’ brand colours.
Sustainability was also embedded within the design, including the reuse of existing flooring and the specification of recycled and lower-carbon materials and manufacturers.
Environmental graphics
Our Creative team worked alongside the interior designers to develop bespoke environmental graphics for the Wakefield workplace.
Large-scale maps, illuminated messages, bespoke wall coverings and graphic interventions bring personality to the office while creating a consistent visual language throughout the building.
Each graphic was designed in response to its setting, helping distinguish social and dining areas from quieter workspaces while reinforcing National Highways’ identity.
One client relationship, two distinctive workplaces
The National Highways projects demonstrate Bowman Riley’s ability to develop a consistent design approach while tailoring workplaces to their location, building and users.
From transforming an industrial unit into a creative hub in Wakefield to creating an inclusive agile workplace in Leeds, our work has helped National Highways create environments that support its people, its brand and the way it works today.

Beechcliffe School Calming Rooms & Circulation Spaces – Bradford
Bowman Riley supported Carleton Academy Trust to create a more nurturing and supportive environment for pupils at Beechcliffe School in Thackley, Bradford, through a sensitive redecoration scheme.
Beechcliffe School is a specialised SEN setting for pupils aged 11-19 who have significant social, emotional, and mental health needs. Working on a pro bono basis, Bowman Riley redesigned the school’s calming rooms, sensory regulation spaces and surrounding circulation areas, transforming clinical-feeling spaces into warm, uplifting interiors that support emotional wellbeing and provide pupils with moments of calm during the school day.
The design uses colour, natural textures, organic forms and tactile finishes to create calming, psychologically supportive spaces. Bespoke horizon mural wallpapers add a sense of openness, while a gentle, nature-inspired palette extends through the corridors, creating a cohesive environment that supports emotional regulation, comfort and an inclusive learning experience.
The project also demonstrates the positive impact of social value through the pro bono contribution of Bowman Riley’s professional expertise. By using our design skills to support a local school, the project has delivered meaningful value beyond the physical transformation, directly benefiting pupils, staff and the wider school community.
Following the success of Phase 1, the project is now progressing into Phase 2, continuing the transformation of the school and extending the design principles throughout the wider environment. This ongoing work will further enhance pupil wellbeing and create a more cohesive, nurturing setting in which children can feel comfortable, supported and able to thrive.

Harrogate Town Football Club Stadium Redevelopment
Creating a stadium fit for league football
Since 2016, Bowman Riley has worked closely with Harrogate Town AFC to transform its Wetherby Road stadium and facilities, supporting the Club through its progression into the English Football League.
Our long-standing involvement has encompassed the phased redevelopment of spectator facilities, hospitality spaces, player facilities and supporter amenities, creating a stronger matchday experience while providing the infrastructure needed to support the Club’s continued growth.
The programme has included increasing spectator capacity from 2,800 to more than 5,000, new seated and standing terraces, a new main stand, improved hospitality facilities, player changing rooms, supporter facilities and proposals for further expansion.
Stadium redevelopment
The initial redevelopment introduced three new spectator terraces and adapted the existing terraces to significantly increase capacity.
The next phase replaced the existing family stand with a new main stand, incorporating a food outlet, bar and new toilet and laundry facilities beneath the terrace.
The completion of the new main terrace in 2020 coincided with a landmark moment for the Club as Harrogate Town achieved promotion to the English Football League for the first time in its history.
Future proposals have included a new two-storey clubhouse with modern changing facilities, hospitality accommodation and elevated terrace seating, alongside improved entrance, turnstile, ticketing and staff facilities.
Hospitality
As the Club’s corporate hospitality requirements grew, Bowman Riley transformed an existing external balcony into additional enclosed space, creating room for a further 40 guests.
The existing hospitality suite was also refreshed with a new interior design scheme, creating a cohesive environment between the original and new spaces and improving the arrival, bar and dining experience for corporate guests.
Player facilities
The Club’s outdated changing facilities were transformed into a bold, contemporary environment reflecting Harrogate Town’s identity and ambitions.
A darker palette combined with the Club’s distinctive yellow creates an energetic atmosphere, while robust, easy-to-clean finishes and durable flooring respond to the demands of professional football.
Integrated storage provides players with practical space to store and charge their phones, combining functionality with a strong visual identity.
Supporter experience
An underused area within the stadium was transformed into a dedicated bar for home supporters.
The narrow space required a practical layout incorporating a substantial bar and social areas without fixed seating. A corrugated steel bar front references the industrial character of the stadium and the Club’s existing corporate stand, while the interior uses the Club’s colours to create a distinctive matchday atmosphere.
Environmental graphics reinforce the identity of the space, with large-scale diagonal graphics inspired by the angular elements of the Harrogate Town brand running across the exposed blockwork and architectural features.
A long-standing partnership
Our continued work with Harrogate Town AFC demonstrates the value of a long-term client relationship, with Bowman Riley supporting the Club through multiple stages of its development and growth.
From increasing stadium capacity and delivering new spectator facilities to improving hospitality, player and supporter spaces, each phase has responded to the Club’s evolving needs while contributing to a cohesive identity across the stadium.
Since 2016, Bowman Riley has been working with Harrogate Town Football Club to significantly redevelop its Wetherby Road CNG Stadium and grounds to support its ambition of securing promotion to the English Football League.
We have provided architecture, project management, contract administration and the role of principal designer to upgrade the player and spectator facilities in phases to aid the club’s continued success and growth.
Harrogate Town needed to expand its facilities to increase spectator capacity from 2,800 to over 5,000 to meet the ground criteria of higher football leagues. This ambition was realised in 2020 with the introduction of new seated and standing terraces. Additionally, the plans have involved a new two-storey clubhouse, an office building, improved hospitality areas and a new floodlighting solution.
The first phase of the redevelopment comprised the introduction of three new terraces for spectators and adaptations to their existing terraces to increase capacity. The second phase was the replacement of the existing family stand with a new main stand including new food outlet, bar area and new toilet and laundry facilities beneath the terrace. As the new main terrace reached completion in 2020, Harrogate Town achieved its long-term vision of reaching the English Football League for the first time in its history.
Subsequent phases will be a new office building and a new two-storey clubhouse providing modern changing facilities at pitch level in a striking new building. The first floor of the clubhouse will provide a hospitality space with external elevated terrace seating for 128 spectators overlooking the pitch. Additionally, we are designing a new face for the club to strengthen its existing presence replacing the existing entrance structure and included improved turnstile access, ground floor ticket area and staff offices.
The final phase will be the redevelopment of the east side of the terrace to replace the existing terrace with additional hospitality areas.
