The Graceful Swan – Skipton
Skipton, North Yorkshire
Completed
Bowman Riley designed the interiors of the Graceful Swan, the first electric canal boat in Skipton to be used for dining experiences.
The Rendezvous Hotel is located alongside the famous Leeds Liverpool Canal less than a mile from the centre of Skipton, the Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. The hotel owner wanted to make the most of the beautiful canal-side location and expand their offering through the use of a canal boat to be moored up outside their property offering canal cruises during the day and evening.
Taking inspiration from the iconic Orient Express train, we created an interior environment that celebrates vintage opulence. We reworked this interior concept with a contemporary edge to suit the environment and purpose of the Graceful Swan as well as the boat itself.
We looked critically at the space to ensure the client’s aspirations are achieved and to ensure a realistic amount of tables and chairs are accommodated to ensure an enjoyable experience and repeat business. The restaurant can cater for up to 44 guests with a bar area and will be accessible for all via a lift.
It is unique, as the first electrically-powered restaurant barge on the canals of Great Britain. The boat will run for a maximum of six hours in any 24 hours before needing to be recharged. The environmental benefits also include no engine noise, no fumes and no vibration.
Opened in Spring 2020, the Graceful Swan is a unique visitor attraction in this picturesque part of Yorkshire enhancing the Rendezvous’ offer for guests and boosting the local visitor economy.
