Wharfebank Mills Business Centre Refurbishment – Leeds
Bowman Riley provided design services on the comprehensive refurbishment of the multi-tenanted business centre at Wharfebank Mills in Leeds.
Following the collapse of the local textile industry in the early 1980s, the mill complex began operating as a business centre. London based developer, Talisman Properties purchased the complex in 2017 with a view to refurbishing the office spaces and common areas to create a vibrant working community.
Working closely with agents, Atkinson Associates, we were involved in the major refurbishment programme of the buildings, starting with the interior design of the largest of the mill buildings on site: Pegholme Mill. Our brief is to improve the quality of the space internally to create accessible, adaptable and affordable contemporary office spaces as a unique prospect for potential tenants.
Our design concept was developed to create a cohesive brand identity using a palette of materials, finishes and fittings to enable phased refurbishment to take place on a live operational site. The design of the common areas will make the spaces more attractive, bright and light, whilst still being sympathetic to the historic buildings. A combination of industrial and contemporary features were introduced along with improved lighting, signage and way-finding.
Additionally, we worked alongside several tenants on the internal fit-outs of their new office spaces providing a seamless service for amongst others; a high-end nursery furniture supplier, Room to Grow, car leasing company DSG and marketing agency, Ponderosa.
