Craven Barn – Yorkshire
Bowman Riley provided architectural and interior design services for the transformation of a disused agricultural barn into Craven Barn, a striking contemporary family home set within the scenic landscape of North Yorkshire.
Our brief was to deliver a bold, modern design that reflected our client’s lifestyle while preserving the essence of the original barn. Following a detailed analysis of the existing structure, we developed an imaginative scheme that maintained the building’s agricultural character while introducing open-plan living and enhanced functionality.
To maximise space, we incorporated a dramatic double-height entrance and added a full upper floor, creating two storeys within the original single-storey footprint. Expansive glazing was introduced to frame the stunning countryside views, while reclaimed materials were reused wherever possible. Modern cladding completed the look, offering a sleek, contemporary finish that complements the building’s setting.
Inside Craven Barn, we designed a calm and cohesive interior with layered textures and a soft, neutral palette. Industrial references from the barn’s heritage combine with refined, contemporary touches for a serene and stylish living environment. We delivered a full interior specification, including bespoke joinery, bathroom design, lighting schemes, and finishes, all tailored to our client’s preferences. The result is a beautifully considered, highly personalised home that reflects their identity and aspirations.
The result is a striking contemporary home with spaces that are both meaningful and meticulously crafted, from the architectural form down to the trim on every cushion.
