Cambridge Road Major Residential Scheme – London
Bowman Riley played a key role in delivering the architecture on Phase 1 of the Cambridge Road Estate redevelopment in Kingston, London, for Countryside and Vistry Group, helping to transform the neighbourhood and create a new chapter for the area.
We led the design delivery of two residential buildings providing over 250 apartments. The scheme was designed as part of a 20-year regeneration plan to reconnect the site with the surrounding community, creating a more welcoming neighbourhood through contemporary urban design, high-quality public spaces, and carefully considered landscaping.
The nine-hectare site replaced a 1960s housing estate with a new, vibrant neighbourhood designed to meet the needs of a growing local population. Delivered through a joint venture between the Royal Borough of Kingston and Countryside, the wider development aims to create a vibrant, safe and connected community, with high-quality, affordable and energy-efficient homes at its heart.
The development exceeded the lifecycle carbon benchmark through sustainable design principles, efficient space planning and coordinated structural and MEP solutions. Green roofs, soft landscaping and a landscaped podium garden support biodiversity, while sustainable urban drainage measures help manage water naturally across the site.
Delivering a major residential scheme of this scale presented significant challenges and we followed the gateway process prior to the implementation of the BSA regime, particularly within a changing high-rise environment. Success depended on close collaboration, technical expertise and coordination across the wider project team. With Phase One now complete, Cambridge Road marks an important milestone in the wider regeneration of Kingston.
