BioComposites Facility, Keele Science and Innovation Park
Bowman Riley was commissioned to deliver architectural services for the refurbishment and extension of BioComposites’ facility at Keele Science and Innovation Park.
Occupying the Keele Science and Innovation Park since 2004, BioComposites has grown from 20 to 160 UK staff, necessitating a modernisation of their manufacturing base to support continued expansion and innovation.
The project involves a comprehensive refurbishment of the ground and second floors of the IC04 building, alongside strategic extensions to improve logistics and operational flow. We are reconfiguring the ground floor to accommodate new manufacturing lines, while the second floor will house upgraded office space, clean rooms, and laboratory facilities.
Our design enables the repurposing of internal areas to increase manufacturing capacity and optimise material and personnel movement. Staff welfare is a key focus, with modernised facilities enhancing the working environment.
To ensure cost-effectiveness, we integrated smart control technology into 90% of the HVAC systems, significantly reducing operational costs. Careful phasing of the works has allowed BioComposites to maintain full operational continuity throughout the project.
This scheme supports BioComposites’ long-term commitment to local employment and sustainable manufacturing, reinforcing their position as a leader in medical-grade biomaterials.
