Depot Climbing – Nottingham
Bowman Riley has provided architecture and interior design services for Depot Climbing on the renovation of their indoor climbing venue in Nottingham.
From humble beginnings in Leeds, Depot Climbing has scaled up to eight centres across the UK, becoming one of the fastest-growing names in the indoor climbing scene.
To match this momentum, Depot Climbing wanted their Nottingham site to embody the same energy and professionalism as their brand, starting with the front-of-house areas: reception, café, and WC facilities and adding wheelchair access.
The renovation presented an opportunity to tackle long-standing environmental challenges. The building suffered from extreme temperature fluctuations, freezing in winter, suffocating in summer, and lacked wheelchair access to upper floors, which we added. To address the climate issues, we are effectively creating a building within a building for the front-of-house area. The enclosed space within the larger warehouse creates a climate-control zone, eliminating these temperature issues.
The result is a modern, functional, and welcoming space that not only reflects Depot Climbing’s national brand identity but also enhances the overall visitor experience. By solving critical environmental challenges and improving accessibility, Bowman Riley has delivered a design that supports Depot Climbing’s continued growth and commitment to inclusivity.
