This time, we have one of our building surveyors, Matthew MacWhirter! Matthew is a relative newcomer who joined our team in 2025.

What’s been your career highlight to date?
At Bowman Riley, supporting the acquisition of a new-build data centre in west London.
Have you got any new personal goals for 2026?
Gain my RICS APC accreditation.
Which of our values resonates the most with you and why?
Excellence – I think it is important to strive for excellence in all things. If something is worth doing, it is worth doing right.
What advice would you give someone entering our industry?
Do it! There is something for everyone, and you will find your place. It’s a great industry full of (mostly) great people.
What’s your favourite holiday destination?
Anywhere with snowy mountains.
What’s your favourite film?
Interstellar.
What’s your favourite song?
Graveyard – No Good, Mr. Holden
Do you prefer dogs or cats?
Tough one! But dogs take the lead (mind the pun).
A good night out or a mug of tea and a good film?
A good night out. (Tea and a film the day after!)
