St Aidan’s School completes second phase of transformation
Bowman Riley has completed the second phase of improvements at St Aidan’s School in Harrogate, creating contemporary, flexible spaces that support the changing needs of students and staff.
Following the transformation of the school’s entrances in Phase One, the latest works have focused on the sixth-form study room, library and learning support areas, making better use of existing accommodation and responding to changing patterns of learning.
The library has been relocated into the smaller former sixth-form study room, freeing up the larger space to create a more spacious and flexible sixth-form study environment. The learning support areas have also been redesigned to provide adaptable spaces that support students’ individual needs.
The completed interiors are contemporary, cohesive and reflect St Aidan’s identity, creating environments that support independent learning, collaboration, wellbeing and focused study.
Phase Two builds on the success of the first phase, which transformed the school’s entrances to improve safeguarding, functionality and the arrival experience. Separate visitor and student entrances created secure, welcoming spaces, with colour, timber, lighting and planting reinforcing the school’s identity. Acoustic pods and flexible meeting spaces were also introduced within the student entrance.
Bowman Riley provided architecture, interior design, space planning, building surveying, project management and contract administration across the programme, working closely with the school from concept through to completion.
Through careful planning, staged design reviews, coordinated information releases, regular site inspections and formal snagging, our team worked with Orbis M&E engineers, ADNC main contractor and Morris & Spottiswood as the furniture supplier to ensure the works were delivered efficiently and to a high standard.
The project demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform existing school accommodation, creating flexible, future-focused environments that support the way students learn and the way schools operate today.
