BJSS Workspaces – Leeds, Manchester and Glasgow
Bowman Riley has worked with technology consultancy BJSS to create distinctive workplaces across the UK, combining a consistent understanding of the company’s culture and brand with designs tailored to each location.
From Leeds and Manchester to Glasgow, each workplace has been designed around how BJSS’s teams work, meet, collaborate and connect, creating flexible environments that support both focused and agile working. BJSS’s offices share a recognisable identity, but each responds to its individual location and the people who use it.
We provided building surveying, project management, interior design, contract administration and the CDM Principal Designer role.
Our approach combines flexible space planning, collaborative environments and a strong sense of place, avoiding a standardised fit-out in favour of workplaces that feel authentic to their surroundings.
Leeds
The Leeds workplace established the approach to creating a contemporary environment that reflects BJSS’s culture while supporting different ways of working. The design provides a balance of individual workspaces, collaborative areas and meeting facilities, creating a flexible environment for a growing technology business.
Manchester
Building on our experience in Leeds, the Manchester office continued the BJSS workplace approach while responding to the characteristics of its own location.
The scheme demonstrates how a consistent brand and workplace philosophy can be adapted to a different building and working environment.
Glasgow
The Glasgow refurbishment extended the relationship further, with Bowman Riley providing building surveying and interior design services through RIBA Stages 1–6, including contract administration, project management and Principal Designer duties.
The brief was to create a workplace suited to BJSS’s remote Scotland team, providing space for individual task working, collaboration, events and meetings.
The city’s industrial heritage provided the inspiration for the interior design, with materials, finishes and colours reflecting Glasgow’s character while incorporating BJSS’s brand identity subtly throughout.
The layout adopts a modern, agile approach, moving away from traditional desk-based working towards a more flexible combination of individual, collaborative and social spaces.
A relationship built on understanding
The BJSS projects demonstrate the value of a long-term design relationship. Rather than applying a fixed formula across multiple offices, Bowman Riley has developed a consistent understanding of BJSS’s requirements and translated this into workplaces that respond to people, culture and place.
The result is a series of workplaces that feel connected, while each has its own identity.
