Lowfield Green shortlisted for The Yorkshires Residential Real Estate Awards
We’re delighted to see Lowfield Green in York, the community-led housing project for YorSpace, shortlisted for the Placemaker Award at The Yorkshire. Residential Real Estate Awards 2026.
The shortlist recognises projects and people making a real difference to Yorkshire’s residential property sector, and Lowfield Green is a great example of how thoughtful design, sustainability and community-led development can come together to create somewhere special to live.
Creating a place with community at its heart
Lowfield Green has transformed the former Lowfield School site in York into a sustainable, affordable and genuinely community-focused neighbourhood.
Working with YorSpace, Bowman Riley supported a scheme created around the people who would ultimately call it home. We developed the original designs in the first phase, which provides 14 townhouses, and designed further homes and a community hall planned for a second phase, creating a development that puts community, connection and long-term affordability at its heart.
Sustainability was fundamental to the project. The homes incorporate timber-frame and modular construction and were designed to meet passive house standards, helping to reduce energy consumption while providing comfortable, healthy and energy-efficient homes.
But Lowfield Green is about more than the buildings. Its community-led ownership model, shared spaces and emphasis on sustainable living demonstrate how residential development can deliver lasting social as well as environmental value.
An award with a difference
The Yorkshires. Residential Real Estate Awards will take place at Rudding Park, Harrogate, on 22 October, bringing together more than 700 property professionals from across the region.
What makes the awards particularly special is their purpose beyond the property industry. Organised in support of Yorkshire Children’s Charity, the event raises vital funds to help children and young people across Yorkshire who are disadvantaged through disability, ill health or financial circumstances. The charity describes The Yorkshires as the property awards with “the biggest heart”, with ticket sales and fundraising directly helping to change young people’s lives.
It’s a fitting setting for Lowfield Green – a project that is itself focused on creating better opportunities and a stronger future for its community.
We’re proud to see the project recognised alongside some of the very best residential developments and placemaking initiatives across Yorkshire.
Congratulations to YorSpace and everyone involved in making Lowfield Green a reality. We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for 22 October!
