Euan Hayes – Architectural Assistant Part I

BSc (Hons) Architectural Studies (First Class)

Euan Hayes joined Bowman Riley in 2025 as an Architectural Assistant Part I, based in the Skipton office, after completing his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies with First Class Honours at the University of Strathclyde. He previously completed a week of work experience at Bowman Riley in 2018, when he was 14, which he thoroughly enjoyed and confirmed his ambition to become an architect.

While studying at university, he discovered an interest in architectural technology, specifically in the retrofit of existing buildings. He had the opportunity to research and write a dissertation about ‘Addressing the energy performance gap in housing retrofits: the importance of behavioural considerations in retrofit strategies’ as well as a Special Study Project where he analysed the success of a retrofit of a 1940s industrial shipbuilding shed in Glasgow. He aims to continue developing this interest while working at Bowman Riley and to gain experience across a broad range of company sectors.

He is continuing his studies part-time at Northumbria University through the RIBA Apprenticeship scheme to complete a master’s degree in architecture. This will take him through his RIBA Part II and Part III, with the end goal of becoming a fully qualified architect.

In his free time, he enjoys staying active by running, going to the gym, and playing ultimate frisbee. While at university, he represented the University of Strathclyde in the sport, taking home Gold at the BUCS Men’s Indoor Nationals in Nottingham. Since moving back home, he has joined a local club called LeedsLeedsLeeds Ultimate based out of Roundhegians RFC.
