In 2025, Joe Mills successfully passed his Part III exams with Distinction and is now eligible to apply to the ARB register as an architect
Joe joined our energy team in 2021 as an Architectural Assistant whilst completing the Part 2 masters degree at Leeds School of Architecture, where he graduated with Distinction and won the ‘Professor Andrew Shepherd Award for Resilience’ and was nominated for the ‘3DReid Student Award’.
Based in our Leeds office, Joe works predominantly on renewable energy and alternative fuels projects. Before his time at Bowman Riley, he worked in London on an eclectic mix of projects, spanning a variety of sectors, such as developer-led and domestic residential, high-end interior design, commercial architecture, and high-end hospitality for a collection of Michelin star restaurants.
During his time with Bowman Riley, he has spent time at the Leeds School of Architecture as a Design Studio Tutor for first-year students studying Interior Architecture & Design.
Originally from Cheshire, Joe moved to Yorkshire to study. After graduating, he spent two years living and working in Northern Kenya, where he managed Tassia Lodge, an exclusive community-run eco-lodge in Lekurruki Conservancy. He also assisted in running an adventure training camp for British army soldiers stationed in Kenya. Joe guided groups of soldiers in rock climbing, mountaineering, canyoning and mountain biking. Finally, he assisted in setting up a small construction firm focused on earth brick housing and wood-fired hot water systems.
Outside of work, he can usually be found in the mountains either climbing, mountaineering, running, or cycling.
