Dechra Pharmaceuticals – North Yorkshire

Dechra, a leading player in the pharmaceutical industry, needed to expand and revamp its premises and infrastructure at its Skipton site to increase its laboratories and warehousing and provide higher-quality offices and meeting spaces.

As the lead consultant and architect, Bowman Riley collaborated with Dechra on an extensive refurbishment project after the company acquired a 1980s industrial unit on its campus in Skipton.

Overseeing the project from concept designs through to completion, we supported Dechra in achieving its goal by expanding its laboratories and warehouse, refurbishing its offices and meeting spaces, and constructing a new link building connecting the acquired property to an adjacent one. Additionally, we reorganised the site layout to streamline incoming and outgoing HGV movements and enhanced parking provisions.

The new link building connects the acquired property to other buildings on the site and enhances energy efficiency, facilitates better internal logistics, and reduces heat loss associated with forklift traffic moving between buildings.

We specified a substantial thermal upgrade for the existing building, including overcladding and insulation of the external envelope. Outdated UPVC windows were replaced with new curtain walling, and energy-efficient insulated roller shutters were installed.

Our team achieved Dechra’s ambitions for the site, and our performance led to a continued partnership, which saw us working on another project within a different building on the same site. This ongoing collaboration is a testament to the trust and confidence developed through the successful execution of the initial project.
