GRIDSERVE’s Electric Forecourt® – Stevenage

Bowman Riley supported the delivery of GRIDSERVE’s Electric Forecourt® in Stevenage, which took the top honours at the Forecourt Trader Awards 2025, winning the Alternative Fuels Outlet Award, a fantastic recognition of innovation in EV infrastructure.

The scheme plays a vital role in supporting the UK Government’s 2030 ban on new petrol and diesel vehicles and the 2050 net-zero target, delivering much-needed, future-ready EV charging infrastructure at scale.

Our role spanned RIBA Stages 1–7, from planning and detailed design coordination through to tender support, construction, and post-completion services. The development features a two-storey modular amenity building, rapid-charging bays beneath photovoltaic canopies
and associated civil and electrical infrastructure.

Located on greenfield land within the Knebworth Estate, adjacent to the A1(M), the design responds sensitively to its rural context. Careful massing, integrated landscaping, and environmental mitigation ensured planning constraints were met without compromising performance or user experience.

From on-site renewable energy generation and off-site modular construction to a strong focus on whole-life carbon, sustainability informed decision-making at every stage. The result of Electric Forecourt® in Stevenage is a replicable model for future EV-charging facilities, showcasing strong professional competencies in project management, multidisciplinary coordination, risk management, and sustainable design.
