Grosvenor Casinos – across the UK

Bowman Riley designed and delivered refurbishment projects on Grosvenor Casinos across the UK for Rank Leisure.

Our role involved defining brand and design standards and revamping the casinos to meet these new benchmarks.

This initiative was driven by the Government’s Gambling Act review, which aims to encourage regulated casinos over online gambling, reducing the risk of financial difficulties for patrons.

We conducted surveys at 18 casino sites and delivered nine bespoke refurbishment schemes in locations such as Blackpool, Luton, Cardiff, Swansea, and Didsbury in Manchester. We enhanced the customer experience and ensured compliance with the new standards.

We tackled asbestos issues, ensuring safe removal and adherence to health and safety regulations. We also improved accessibility by installing lifts where needed, in line with the Disability Discrimination Act, and updated fire strategies to comply with the new Building Safety Act.

In London, we refurbished four prestigious buildings, including the 1913 Grade II listed Leicester Square Casino, which features Edwardian Baroque architecture, and the Tottenham Court Road Casino, known for its brutalist design. Our team skilfully navigated heritage considerations to preserve the historical significance while modernising the facilities. At Knightsbridge and Kensington Casinos, we balanced modern upgrades with respect for the architecture of the surrounding listed properties.

The projects successfully refreshed and upgraded each of the Grosvenor casinos, providing bespoke solutions at each site to enhance their appeal and functionality.
