Mortimer Street Commercial Office Redevelopment – London
Bowman Riley is developing designs for the refurbishment, remodelling, and CAT A fit-out of Informa House, a commercial building on Mortimer Street, Fitzrovia, within the East Marylebone Conservation Area, on behalf of contractor West and Vittori.
The building has a rich history dating back to the 19th century, when it housed Agnes Marshall’s renowned cookery school, later evolving into a retail and business hub before becoming office accommodation. The design acknowledges this heritage, creating an environment that is memorable for users and respectful of the building’s past.
The project involves partial demolition, stripping back to its structural concrete frame, and reimagining it as a contemporary commercial workspace. Two new glazed façades and a two-storey rear extension will transform the building, delivering a high-quality central London development while improving operational performance and sustainability.
The existing office accommodation had become tired and no longer met modern expectations. The refurbishment will provide bright, efficient, flexible CAT A office space, creating high-quality lettable floors tailored by future tenants.
Close monitoring of progress has been central to delivery. Careful coordination of the project responsibility matrix, together with rigorous recording and tracking of actions, has helped mitigate design risks and ensure compliance with building regulations and project requirements.
The owner’s ambition is to enhance and reposition Informa House within the central London market, delivering a refurbished building of lasting quality that strengthens long-term value and appeal to prospective tenants.
