St Aidan’s School – Harrogate

Bowman Riley completed a programme of improvements at St Aidan’s School in Harrogate, transforming spaces to create contemporary, welcoming environments that reflect the school’s identity and support the evolving needs of students and staff.

Our team provided architecture, interior design, space planning, building surveying, project management and contract administration from concept to completion.

The first phase redesigned the school’s entrances to improve safeguarding, functionality and the arrival experience. Separate visitor and student entrances created secure, welcoming spaces, with St Aidan’s identity reflected through colour, timber, lighting and planting. The student entrance introduced acoustic pods and three flexible meeting spaces. The entrance scheme was installed in just two days during the summer holidays. Project management, including staged design reviews, coordinated information releases, agreed finish benchmarks, regular site inspections and formal snagging, ensured quality throughout.

The transformation continued with the redesign of the sixth-form study room, library and learning support areas. Responding to changing learning patterns and reduced demand for physical library space, the accommodation was reconfigured to make better use of the available space. The library was relocated into the smaller former sixth-form study room, allowing the larger space to become a more spacious and flexible sixth-form study environment.

The completed spaces are contemporary, cohesive and on-brand, providing students with environments that support independent learning, wellbeing, collaboration and focused study.

The projects have transformed St Aidan’s existing accommodation, enhancing the experience for students and visitors, strengthening safeguarding and creating flexible, future-focused spaces supporting how the school operates and students learn today.
