The Woolly Sheep: Signage, Wayfinding and Environmental Graphics

Improving the guest journey through a coordinated family of bespoke signs, murals and curated artwork rooted in the character of The Woolly Sheep.

Creating a clearer guest journey

Bowman Riley Creative delivered pub signage and wayfinding for The Woolly Sheep Hotel, Pub and Restaurant as part of its wider refurbishment. We worked alongside Timothy Taylor’s marketing team and Bowman Riley’s interior designers to ensure every element felt integrated with the renewed interior. 100Before the refurbishment, some visitors found the toilets and beer garden difficult to locate. The existing signs were inconsistent, dated and poorly positioned, and no longer reflected Timothy Taylor’s brand or the quality of the proposed interior.

Designing around different visitors

We reviewed the complete visitor journey before developing the signage strategy. The venue serves hotel guests, diners, bar customers and people attending functions, each arriving with different needs and destinations. Routes to reception, the bar, dining areas, hotel check-in, toilets, the beer garden, internal courtyard and function spaces were considered together. This created a coherent system that helps visitors find their way without introducing unnecessary visual clutter.0

A signage family rooted in character

We designed and technically specified 19 signage, wayfinding and graphic interventions throughout the venue. Traditional serif typography, dark sign panels, leather strap details, metal plaques and illustrated graphics create a distinctive visual family. These details draw on the established character of The Woolly Sheep while complementing the refurbished interior and Timothy Taylor’s wider identity. Signs were positioned around natural decision points so that information appears when visitors need it. Clear wording, consistent styling and simple directional arrows make each route easier to understand.

Extending the identity beyond wayfinding

Alongside the directional signs, Bowman Riley Creative curated framed artwork and photography for the interior and created bespoke sheep murals and glazing graphics. These elements work together to give the venue a stronger sense of place. Rather than appearing newly applied, the finished graphics feel as though they have always belonged within the building.

Supporting a successful destination

The completed scheme provides a clearer and more consistent experience while retaining the warmth and individuality of a traditional Yorkshire pub. The wider refurbishment was followed by record financial performance for the venue. The Woolly Sheep was also named Yorkshire and Humber Pub and Bar of the Year at the 2026 National Pub and Bar Awards.

SportsShoes.com: Environmental Graphics

Transforming a large industrial unit into a distinctive workplace and visitor destination through environmental graphics inspired by movement, competition and sporting culture.

Creating a workplace with energy

SportsShoes.com commissioned Bowman Riley Creative to develop a complete workplace environmental graphics scheme for its new creative hub in West Yorkshire.

The scale and raw character of the industrial building created a dramatic backdrop, but the interior needed warmth, personality and a stronger sense of brand identity. Our challenge was to balance SportsShoes.com’s premium market position with the energy, humour and playfulness of its internal culture.

A visual language inspired by sport

Running, fitness and competitive sport informed a bold graphic language that travels throughout the building.

Track markings guide movement across the floors, graphics wrap around corners and climb staircases, and sporting references appear in unexpected places. These interventions encourage people to explore while connecting different areas through a consistent visual identity.

Colour, typography, pattern and scale were carefully controlled so that the scheme feels energetic without becoming visually overwhelming.

Integrated with the architecture

The graphics were considered alongside the architecture and interior design from the outset, rather than applied as a finishing layer.

Large-scale designs interact with walls, floors, stairs and structural features, helping them feel like a permanent part of the building. This approach also allowed the raw industrial materials to remain visible while giving the interior a distinctive SportsShoes.com identity.

Bespoke graphics throughout the building

Every element was developed specifically for its location and purpose. The completed scheme includes:

  • Running-track floor graphics
  • Podium-inspired graphics and level identification
  • Reception and arrival signage
  • Meeting-room identities
  • Illuminated lettering
  • Bespoke wallpaper and wall graphics
  • Sporting messages and references
  • External Unit 2 identification signage

Humorous sporting references and subtle brand messages reflect the company’s culture, while meeting-room names celebrate sporting achievements and heritage.

A memorable workplace and visitor experience

External branding was deliberately understated, creating a clear sense of arrival without overly advertising the building’s use.

Inside, the environmental graphics give the creative hub energy, continuity and a strong sense of identity. The finished space supports the SportsShoes.com team while providing a memorable destination for visitors, collaborators and brand partners.

Robin Hill Residential Development Branding – llkley

Robin Hill Residential Development Branding – llkley

Bankhead Group appointed Bowman Riley to develop the residential development branding for Robin Hill, an exclusive collection of seven new-build apartments in Ilkley’s Middleton Conservation Area.

The spacious two- and three-bedroom apartments feature private outdoor space, two parking spaces, and are within a gated development with mature landscaped gardens, a living green wall, and a sedum-roofed carport.

Working alongside our architects and our client, we successfully created a distinctive residential development brand that communicates the quality, exclusivity and landscaped setting of Robin Hill.

Our challenge was to create an identity that would position Robin Hill confidently within Ilkley’s premium property market while giving the development its own recognisable character.

Our services included brand strategy and market positioning, residential development identity, logo and monogram design, colour palette and typography, construction hoarding design, sales and marketing collateral, and print artwork and production coordination.

An identity rooted in its setting

The Robin Hill identity combines a refined monogram with elegant typography, a restrained colour palette and rich botanical imagery. Deep green establishes a connection with the development’s mature landscape, while gold detailing introduces warmth and a sense of quality. The clean, contemporary monogram complements the bespoke architecture without relying on traditional or predictable luxury property imagery. Together, these elements create an identity that feels modern, considered and appropriate for the development’s conservation-area setting.

Turning the site boundary into a marketing opportunity

The identity was applied to large-format construction hoarding surrounding the development, which combines the Robin Hill branding with concise sales messages, development information and architectural visualisations. This allowed the site to begin communicating its character, quality and market positioning before prospective buyers could experience the completed apartments. Clear visual hierarchy ensures that the development name and key messages can be understood quickly by passing pedestrians and motorists.

Creating a consistent buyer experience

The visual identity was extended across printed sales and marketing materials, creating a consistent experience from initial awareness through to more detailed buyer conversations. Dark green covers, gold lettering, carefully selected materials and tactile finishes reinforce the premium positioning of the apartments. Repeating the monogram, typography and colour palette across each application makes the development immediately recognisable. The result is a cohesive property brand that supports Bankhead Group’s sales and marketing activity while giving Robin Hill a distinctive presence within the Ilkley residential market.

Property Photography for Holiday Accommodation

Bowman Riley provides holiday let property photography, capturing residential accommodation for online listings and wider marketing.

Strong property photography needs to do more than make a room look attractive. It should help potential guests understand the space, imagine staying there and feel confident to make a booking.

Our aim is to create warm, inviting imagery while clearly showing each property’s layout, facilities, character and surroundings.

Combining wide-angle photography with carefully chosen detail shots, the imagery showcases the scale and personality of the accommodation. This can include bright, open living spaces, the flow between rooms, and views of the surroundings.

Careful composition helps the rooms feel spacious without creating a misleading impression. Natural light is used, supported by professional camera equipment to retain consistent detail across bright windows and darker interior areas.

The finished image libraries give the property owners a flexible collection of high-resolution and web-ready photographs for their listings and wider marketing.

By combining an understanding of architecture, interiors and visual marketing, we create photography that feels inviting while remaining honest and informative.

Corporate Photography

At Bowman Riley, our photography combines professional headshots, group portraits and natural images of people working in their everyday surroundings. Whether capturing our teams in the studio, on site or at an event, we create approachable, consistent imagery that reflects the professionalism, personality and collaborative culture of Bowman Riley.

We believe great photography should do more than record a project or a team; it should communicate who we are, how we work and the environments we create.
We understand that photography in architectural and construction environments comes with practical challenges. Our shoots can take place across offices, live projects and construction sites, where changing conditions, ongoing activity and mandatory PPE need to be managed without compromising the quality or consistency of the finished images.

Our approach is relaxed and conversational. We know that not everyone feels comfortable in front of a camera, so we provide simple guidance on positioning, posture and expression to help people feel at ease and produce natural, confident images.
The result is a cohesive library of high-quality portraits, group photography and working images that authentically represent our people, projects and culture.

Images are supplied in high-resolution and web-ready formats, providing versatile content for websites, bids and proposals, recruitment, social media, PR and wider communications.

National Highways Environmental Graphics

Bowman Riley’s creative team worked alongside National Highways and our in-house interior design team to develop a series of bespoke environmental graphics for the organisation’s new two-storey workplace in Wakefield.

Designed as a creative and collaborative hub, the workplace includes open-plan offices, meeting rooms, social spaces and staff breakout areas. The brief was to bring personality and a clear sense of identity to each setting without making the interior feel overly corporate.

Our response combines large-scale map graphics with illuminated messages. Each intervention was tailored to its surroundings, adding energy to social and dining spaces while providing a calmer backdrop within work areas. A consistent visual language connects the scheme throughout.

We worked closely with our client, our in-house interior designers and specialist manufacturer throughout the design and implementation process. We specified the wall coverings, illuminated sign construction, colours, typography and scale, coordinating each element through production and installation to protect the original design intent

The completed graphics give each space a distinctive character while remaining carefully integrated with the wider interior. The result is an engaging and cohesive workplace that reflects National Highways and supports how each space is used.

Property Development Hoarding Design

Bowman Riley designs bespoke construction hoarding that transforms temporary site boundaries into valuable marketing space.

Construction hoarding does more than secure a live site. It is often a development’s first opportunity to attract attention, build confidence and introduce the finished place to future buyers.

Working with developers, architects, sales agents and project teams, we combine brand identity, architectural visualisations, imagery and clear messaging to communicate what is being created behind the hoarding.

Every scheme starts with the development: its location, architecture, audience and market position. This allows us to create designs that feel specific to the place and communicate the quality of the finished development, rather than simply enlarging a property advertisement to construction-site scale.

Because buyers may encounter the site before they can visit the finished place, the design needs to capture attention quickly and help them imagine what is coming. We plan layouts for different viewing distances, balancing strong overall impact with information that remains clear and easy to understand.

Hoarding must work within a live construction environment. We consider panel sizes, sightlines, entrances, site information, security requirements and how the artwork will be produced and installed. From the initial idea to manufacture-ready artwork, we bring the commercial, creative and practical requirements together within one coherent design.

HOARDING SERVICES PROVIDED

  • Hoarding concepts and design
  • Brand identity and application
  • Architectural visualisation editing
  • Image selection and editing
  • Content hierarchy and messaging
  • Large-format print-ready artwork
  • Production coordination

Harrogate Town AFC Environmental Graphics

Bowman Riley worked alongside our interior design team to transform an underused stadium area into a distinctive bar for Harrogate Town AFC’s home supporters.

The narrow space had exposed blockwork and a utilitarian, industrial character. The graphics needed to introduce warmth, energy and an unmistakable sense of club identity while working with, rather than concealing, the existing architecture.

We developed a series of large-scale diagonal graphics inspired by angular elements within Harrogate Town AFC’s brand. Rather than directly repeating existing artwork, the club’s visual language was reinterpreted as an environmental graphic that responded to the proportions and movement through the space.

Yellow, black and white lines were painted directly onto the blockwork, travelling across walls, around corners and over architectural features. Integrating the motif into the fabric of the interior allowed the graphics to feel permanent rather than applied as surface decoration.

Close coordination with the club and Bowman Riley’s interior designers ensured the graphics complemented the materials, lighting and wider scheme. The illuminated “Proud to be Town” living wall provides a strong focal point behind the bar.

The result is an atmospheric supporters’ bar with a clear sense of place, strengthening the matchday experience and feeling unmistakably Harrogate Town.
